FSLA 2014 Student Essay Competition

The Financial Services Lawyers Association (FSLA) is pleased to announce the title of its annual student essay competition.

This competition aims to provide a platform for students and trainee practitioners (trainee solicitors and pupils) to research and discuss a topic under legal and policy debate in the industry.

‘Pay day’ lenders charging 1000% interest are best controlled by competition not regulation: discuss.

Please submit your essay before Friday 07 March 2014 to treasurer@fsla.org.uk with ‘Essay Competition 2014’ included in the subject.

The competition will be judged by: Tim Herrington, Mr Justice Cranston and Professor Eva Lomnicka

The Chris Stallard Memorial Prize (First Prize) is £1,500 plus a six week internship at the FCA (two weeks with the Regulatory Decisions Committee, two weeks with the Enforcement Division, and two weeks with the General Counsel’s Division). Second prize is £500. Third prize is £250.

Entrants need not be FSLA members, although students are entitled to free FSLA membership. To join, please email treasurer@fsla.org.uk

FSLA Jnr Lawyers Drinks Reception, Wednesday 18th December 2013

In conjunction with Steinbach & Syer, FSLA will launch its series of 2014 Jnr Lawyer events by hosting a drinks reception at their gallery space at 6.30pm, Wednesday 18th December. FSLA is also pleased to invite Aspiring Solicitors, an organisation which provides aspiring solicitors with free academic and careers advice.

The event will be held in the showrooms of Steinbach & Syer, an art agency concerned with promoting and selling the work of London’s most exciting emerging artists. The evening promises to be a relaxed meeting space for FSLA’s junior practioners and student members.
